Warren Steven Scott Eclipse Ovoids - Baily's Beads
Layered ovoids representing the five stages of a solar eclipse. A gourd-shaped bead charm represents “Baily’s beads,” a phenomenon that occurs when sunlight shines through the valleys and rugged terrain along the Moon’s edge, creating points of light around the lunar limb.
The five stages of the eclipse are represented through the layered ovoid forms:
-
Partial eclipse begins — the Moon’s shadow begins to cross the Sun’s disc.
-
Total eclipse begins — the Moon covers almost the entire Sun.
-
Maximum eclipse / totality — the Moon completely covers the Sun’s disc.
-
Total eclipse ends — the Moon begins to move away, with Baily’s beads appearing as sunlight shines through the valleys along the lunar limb.
-
Partial eclipse ends — the Moon moves completely away from the Sun’s disc.
Each “Baily’s bead” charm is made with vintage conterie Venetian glass seed beads, personally sourced by Warren during a trip to Venice in fall 2025.
