Niwis is the Wet’suwet’en word for soapberries; named for the power that joyful memories have to uplift our spirits and reconnect us with our purpose. It’s a near-universal Northwest Coast rez-kid experience to go berry-picking with your family’s matriarchs. The cheerful, bright aromas of neroli and lemon bring us back to that happy place: nestled in the wildflowers, picking niwis with Skokumhalyte (my grandmother).
